The lunar landscape of Cappadocia can only truly be appreciated from a high vantage point, and a balloon trip starting at dawn is a breathtaking experience not to be missed. The balloon flight in Cappadocia is said to be the best in the world alongside the balloon flight in Kenya. It’s easy to fit in a balloon trip in with your other tours because they start very early in the morning - just don’t forget your camera! The company picks you up from your hotel and offers you a little something before taking you to the launch site. It’s very exciting watching the balloon being inflated. There’s a brief lesson on how to take off and land safely ... then you’re off!

Every flight is different because of the wind direction. The talented pilots go as high as 2 km for a fantastic birds-eye view and so low that you can pick fruit from the trees. During the long tour you can see the sunrise; the colors of the sun mixing with the colors of the rocks make this an unforgettable moment. On landing, those on the long tour are offered the traditional champagne celebration and cakes, and you can help the land crew pack up the balloon if you want. Everyone who completes the trip is awarded a flight certificate.

There are two flights: a 60 minute flight (known as the 'short flight') and a 90+ minute flight (known as the 'long flight'). The long flight is recommended because this gives the pilot time to get close to the rocks and trees to get some otherwise impossible views into the upper rock caves and the like (this is the famous flight). There is now so much demand throughout the year that reservations are essential before your arrival (although you only pay the balloon company at the end of the trip).
